It is not always possible for students to stay close to the school.
In most Canadian schools it is normal for it to take around 45 minutes to get to school.
Generally our host families are around 25 minutes walking distance so most students are able to get to school much quicker than the bigger cities and can also avoid crowded public transportation. In some cases it is more expensive to take a taxi. Generally taxis cost around $7 to $10 to get to the school. Because of this many families do let students use their bicycle free of charge. In cases like this when it would take 40 to 60 minutes to walk a bicycle makes this much quicker and also saves the student money. Some families also drive and for the adult students they may ask for a payment that would be similar to what a student would pay for public transportation.
We are glad that you feel the computer program is good for elementary levels and sorry that the higher levels on the computer program did not match you well.
