WA takes residential students on several day and weekend trips include taking a coach to Boston, local festivals and landmarks, Acadia National Park, Bar harbor, whale watching and lobster fishing. In addition, Washington Academy students have opportunities to have class in the University of Maine. All the boarding students in WA can use the lab center, library, and entertainment facilities for free. There are transit buses between WA and University of Maine. International students could learn mathematics, sciences and arts together with local students when they have language and culture study.

- On November 19 a group of our Costal Ecology students arrived in Vichy France for the Atlantic Salmon Conservation Schools Network (ASCSN) conference. Upon arrival the students were greeted by the mayor of Vichy before beginning their work with the ASCSN. The students that traveled included Lauren Wallace, Donald Soctomah, Reese Thompson, Hailey Bell, Eunseo Cho, and Jodie Harris. These students have been learning and helping with hatchery methods at the Downeast Salmon Federation (DSF) under the supervision of WA science teacher, Don Sprangers.
During their time in France students had the opportunity to visit a hatchery and learn about its methods of operation. They were able to visit spawning grounds and a dam with research and observation windows. The students helped conduct research and were able to attend a variety of lectures on topics such as; geology and watershed, biodiversity and conservation, water policy, and more.

Washington Academy is an independent secondary school committed to the success of each of our local, national, and international students. Offering a comprehensive program of academics, athletics, and the arts, we strive to create opportunities that will equip students socially and intellectually for their future endeavors and prepare them to become productive members of society.
Washington Academy was established in 1792 and it is one of the oldest boarding schools in US. The school is located in East Machias, Maine with 75 acres. There is 1 hour flight to New York, 4 hours driving to Boston and 2 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The school currently has 432 students and 80% are local students, 20% are international students from 25 countries.
Washington Academy provides full-time high school education from Grade 9-12 with over 100 academic courses, including ESL and IBT TOEFL. The School is equipped with impeccable facilities, including computer system, internet cable and wireless in the dorms, fine arts classroom, music room, library, fitness center, swimming pool, student catering and sports fields. Washington Academy also has 13 varsity sports, including soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis and swimming.
